Chapter 1: Renovating decisions

Why renovate your place?
Well, there are many reasons why you might want to renovate.
1. You have more money than you need
2. You have nothing better to do
3. You want your house to look nicer
4. Your wife is bugging you (men don't usually care)
5. It's been 15 years since you last did anything for your house
6. Your house is the only house on the street that has not been renovated
7. You want a change
8. Future plans

My mum and I decided to renovate for reasons 1 and 8. 8 being my mum wants to make this house our ancestral home. Initially I disapproved of the decision to renovate because our housing area isn't all that great. And if you have reason 1, usually people will just move out to a better area instead of going through all the hassle. My mum being the sentimental person she is explaining that the house means a lot to her because it's the first house she bought with her own hard earned money. Tear jerker...I know.

The image I have in my mind when I think 'ancestral home' :)

Anyway, so I went along with the renovation idea. I love designing and I've always been interested in interior design ever since I worked at a real estate developer. Plus, my mum basically told me, 'Do what you want'. :D :D :D :D Really now? *jumping up and down* The budget she gave me was pretty huge, surely enough to do what I want...right? We'll see.

Introduction

Hey Everyone,

This blog isn't new. I've deleted the old posts to make way for new ones. I've decided to write on my house renovation project cuz I think it can help others (in Msia or out of Msia) who are also renovating their homes. I am dividing the renovation project into a few different chapters to make it easier for you to maneuver.

Chapter 1: Renovation decision (Why & what?)
Chapter 2: Construction & architect

Chapter 3: Interior Design
Chapter 4: Doing it
Chapter 5: Living in it

If you know me well, the idea of documenting everything can seem a little far fetched for a few reasons. For one, I am quite a private person. I don't really like everyone knowing what's going on in my life or my house. I find being a little mysterious interesting :) And second, my time is very much limited during the day and blogging about the project is not of huge importance in my life. However, I am pretty eager to share what I know so far which may lead to others making better decisions. My best friend would also like to rest his ear from time to time after hearing me ramble on and on about my project. God bless his soul. So if this blog does help you in some way, do drop me a line.
